If you’ve hesitated decorating your space for the holidays because you don’t want to spend a lot of money on temporary decor, I totally feel you. But there are a few ways ways you can infuse some cheer into your living space without compromising on practicality or budget! Here are some ideas for easy living room decor for the holidays.
Add a splash of real or faux greenery with a wreath, a garland, or a mini tree. Half garlands around mirrors are hot right now, but a fresh wreath would have been my pick if we were staying for the holidays. I settled for a fake one instead!
2. Something Red
Round out your Christmas colors with something red like ribbons, stockings, fur, or plaid. You can use throw pillows and blankets as another way to temporarily bring in some red. Our plaid blanket was a wedding gift!
You don’t need a tree to have ornaments – put them in bowls, vases, on the door, you name it. Our ornament wreath is my favorite decor piece from last year – can you believe I found it at CVS?!
String lights are a perfect way to include some cheer around your home. Even if you don’t have a tree, drape lights around a door, a bookcase, or wrap them around a wreath. I didn’t put any lights up this year because I kept them up until April last year and get VERY tired of them lol. Candles are another way you can incorporate light into your decor. Tapered candles are really elegant, and scented candles can bring in the smell of Christmas even if you’re using faux greenery.
Since we had some decor saved from last year, this year we only spent $20 on holiday decor! This just proves that you don’t need to spend money on a huge tree to have Christmas decor. All these tiny elements came together in our recently redecorated living room, and once we turn the Christmas playlist on, it’s a cozy winter wonderland!
If you’ve been following #klassykinkshome on Instagram (which you can now do since IG introduces following hashtags!), you probably noticed there is WAY more color in our living room than before. We started off with a white sectional from Ikea, but found it difficult to keep clean. Jonathan has been trying to convince me to add more color to our place since we moved in, and I’ve started to compromise (the bedroom is still the most colorful place in the house!). Because our couch cover is removable, we thought it would be a great opportunity to add a bold pop of color to our space!
I partnered with Bemz for our new couch cover because they specialize in covers for Ikea furniture in custom colors and fabrics. They send you five free color/fabric swatches so you can make an informed decision! Jonathan and I agreed that we wanted a velvet couch cover, but we couldn’t decide between grey (my choice… I’m safe with neutrals!) and navy blue (his choice). I took to Instagram stories to poll which color you guys think I should get, and it was close! I decided to let Jonathan win this one and we got a gorgeous couch cover in Zaragoza Vintage Velvet in Sea! Although there’s currently a lot of red in the space, once the holidays are over the focus will go back to our blue velvet couch and all our cozy velvet throw pillows! The grey ones are from Sury, the ivory ones are from Bemz, and the orange & white ones that complement our leso is from Whitney J Decor.
